Bring Out Your Book Nerd!
It was a beautiful fall day…the birds were chirping, the grass was green, and I was acting like a 5 year old meeting Mickey Mouse…
Let’s rewind! When I was a wee teenager, a very dear friend got me started on the Patricia Cornwell – Kay Scarpetta series. I adore Kay Scarpetta and love Patricia Cornwell…and I have been a huge fan ever since. Cornwell’s books have a great balance of story line, character development and information regarding a medical examiner’s point of view to keep me turning the pages. I’m very much into murder mysteries and strong female leads…Cornwell covers both!
Fast forward to that great fall day…it is 2012 and Patricia Cornwell is going to be appearing and speaking at the National Book Festival in DC! You already know where this is going. My girlfriend agrees to go with me to meet Patricia Cornwell…I’m pretty sure she signed on to this to keep me from being arrested for stalking PC. So, off we go to DC…lugging around about 8 large hardback books in my back pack, on the metro. We head over to PC’s line as soon as she finishes speaking…to find it isn’t one line it is two giant lines to hold ALL of the people! Remember how beautiful I said the day was? Well, now we are sitting in a grassy field with no shade and boy oh boy…is it toasty!
For 2 hours we wait. Finally it is my turn and I step up to the table and she is RIGHT there! This woman I have idolized for over a decade is right in front of me AND talking to me?? We have a delightful little conversation…which means I basically proclaim my undying love for her/her work and she smiles and chats with me. I was seriously high on life at that moment…as I walked aimlessly away from the table clutching all of my now signed books to my chest…all I could do was mutter “I’m so excited, I’m so excited” over and over again!
So this totally exposes my book nerd…care to share yours? Have you ever just geeked out beyond comprehension? Looked like a mad woman rambling to herself and clutching books? Please share! Let me know I’m not the only one;)
